Tillie’s father insists that she go to California to marry a man that is even older than her father. She begged him not to make her go as she definitely does not want to marry him. However, he insists that she must go and marry this man. As she is on her way, her coach is attached by bandits. The driver and both young men that were sent to help protect her are killed. Luckily for Tillie a group of Apache hunters are close by and come to her aid. Although many of the Apaches do not trust white men, they don’t feel like they could just leave her there because they are sure she would not survive. The chief, Taza, promises to get her safely back to her home. They hope that by returning her to her father it will influence him to help create peace between the Navajo and the white man. Taza’s brother, Tarak, is instructed to take care of her on the long trip. At first he doesn’t trust her, but as they spend time together they begin to develop feelings for each other. They experience many dangers and troubles and even some rebellion while on the trip. Will they be able to get to Tillie’s home? How will her father respond? Will they find the bandits that attacked her coach on the road? Will Tillie still be forced to marry the man in California? What will happen to Tarak and Tillie? This is a wonderful book with intriguing characters that you bond with as you read. It has a great story line that holds your interest and makes it hard to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a western story with a lot of action.I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.
